Low Impact Exercise

We all know that exercise is an important part of living an overall healthy life. But due to illness and injury or even pregnancy and age, some of us may find that it is increasingly difficult to get the exercise we need. The good news is that there are a variety of ways to get low impact exercise that can greatly benefit you health and wellness.

One great low impact exercise, and probably the most popular, is walking. The great thing about walking is that you can adjust the impact to address your unique needs. If you need to get your heart rate going a little, increase your pace or try walking up and down some small hills. Another way to get more out of your walk is to use your arms. Try swinging your arms or using weights to add a little strength training to your low impact exercise.

Another great way to exercise with low impact is to participate in water aerobics. Water aerobics can give you a great low impact cardiovascular workout and can also improve the strength of your major muscle groups.

The most important thing to remember when starting any low impact exercise is to start slow and gradually build up your abilities. Try not to over do it and give your body enough time to rest and recover. If you have specific concerns about your health or your ability to participate in an exercise program, make sure to talk to your doctor before you begin.
